Challenge

One of the biggest challenges in designing Readdly was creating an application that supports children with dyslexia while still feeling fun and attractive for children without learning difficulties.

The experience also needed to adapt to different age groups, offering a simple, guided, and parent-linked environment for children under 14, while giving older users (+14) a more independent and personalized learning experience.

Balancing accessibility, engagement, and age-appropriate interaction was essential to make the application inclusive for all children.

Process

Research & Analysis: We conducted research on dyslexia, learning difficulties, and children's educational needs to better understand the challenges they face when developing reading and writing skills. We also analyzed existing educational applications and accessibility practices to identify opportunities for creating a more inclusive learning experience.

Information Architecture: Based on our research, we organized the application into clear learning paths and age-specific experiences. The structure was designed to provide simple navigation for younger children, more independence for older learners, and dedicated monitoring tools for parents.

Usability Testing: The application is currently being tested with different groups of children to evaluate usability, engagement, and learning effectiveness. Feedback collected during this phase is used to refine the experience and improve accessibility.

Visual Design & Style Guide: A playful and accessible visual identity was developed using child-friendly colors, clear typography, intuitive icons, and a friendly learning mascot. A design system was also created to ensure consistency across ios and android devices and future updates.

Conclusion

The application is currently in the testing phase, where it is being evaluated with children of different learning abilities and backgrounds from various schools in Tunisia and Canada. This testing process helps gather valuable feedback, identify areas for improvement, and ensure that Readdly provides an effective, accessible, and enjoyable learning experience for a wide range of learners .
